The strike did not produce any results, and the peaceful rally was dispersed by the police. Researchers often point to the fact that in 1857, March 8 fell on a holiday, a Sunday, when textile workers did not work. By 1908, the annual demonstrations had become so large that it prompted the Socialist Party of America to declare February 28, 1909, the first International Women's Day. In 1909–1910, women's marches and strikes led by the Socialist Party of America took place in the USA in the last weeks of February.
