My minimum wage job didn’t cover more than my rent and a couple of utilities. My mother had a fall the winter before and I thought this would be a good way for us to support each other. She agreed and we became roommates. Then in September of 2019, I lost my job and had to rethink my future. At age 48, with a retired sex worker’s resumé that was so much fun. Then in January 2020, she had surgery for her abdominal aneurysm and a challenging recovery. I was grateful to be there for her. I was even more grateful that we lived together when the pandemic made its way here and when our seniors’ residences and long-term-care homes were battered by the virus. In the fall of 2020, I felt even more gratitude for being there to care for her. She was diagnosed with not 1 but 3 forms of cancer. Her cancer is terminal and our small family is getting through these weird hard isolating times together. I get a small government supplement as her full-time caregiver issued as part of Canada’s Covid-19 support. It doesn’t cover my rent and monthly expenses but it helps. What is also helpful are those of you who support my work with tips, content purchases, and private cam shows. So much so. Thank you so much. Seska xo
