I don’t remember when it was ever appropriate to ask another person (especially a stranger) what their income was. There seems to be this crazy idea that sex workers make a crap ton of money. This is rarely the case for most people. People always assumed this at the club as well… And then proceeded to often be very cheap….. I personally know many exotic dancers, who are getting second or even third jobs in “normal” employment positions, because the sex worker world simply is not what people believe it to be. The advertisements that you see online about women selling feet photos… Are often staged. Interviews set up by the company to try and entice more women to their website because they take a very high percentage. I think it’s much easier for many people to assume that particularly women make massive amounts, because it’s easier to somehow dehumanize them and claim that what they do is at work at all for that it’s too easy. I’m one of the very lucky few that can make a somewhat decent living doing what I do. However, with the rising inflation rates, people, losing interest, or even the fact that I have limits on my work has also pushed me to go back to working several more hours a week on HBC (sometimes making less that 5 dollars an hour) just to make up for the income I’m losing. Let me make it very clear, this is not meant to be a “woe was me“ act. Not one bit. Because I still love my job and appreciate everything that it provides for me. And I’m luckier than most. But please don’t assume that myself, or women like myself are just rolling in cash when many are scraping by.
