If we think that being fit and healthy is about a certain lo..

If we think that being fit and healthy is about a certain look, like what our body shape is, more or less muscles, lower body fat, we are no longer creating health and fitness, we are riding the self objectification ride and a journey to get no satisfaction. And truthfully this is our culture we live in today. It is all about self objectification with the filters, video and photo editing, selfies culture, best post on social media. What is human anymore, how do we find ourselves and goals that will serve us and not make us self objectify? Or if we aren’t self objectifying we are judging others we know nothing about. It is wonderful to feel good and love the look of the skin we are in. Do not get me wrong. We must nourish, cherish, and respect our beautiful temple our body. However in this hyped up social media and visual world it is even more important than ever to let go of the shackles of shame, comparison, expectations that hinder us and self objectification we do to ourselves. Why? Because all the world sells this as fitness. This is not a sign of fitness, health or self care. This is a sign of disconnection and the ego. It will only lead down a path that does not end with self love or respect. In our world we've always chased body types and looks. For women: 1910s: Hourglass figure with cinched waist. 1920s: Thin with no curves. 1930s: Curved body with slim waist. 1940's: Taller and squarer figure. 1950's: Larger hips and fuller bust. 1960s: Ultra-slim without curves. 1970's: Small hips and flat tummy. 1980s: Tall with athletic figure. 1990s: Extremely thin, waifish figure 2000's: Toned slim body 2010s: Hourglass figure with full curves I wonder when will just being ourselves become popular? Well that is up to us. Why? Because it is only if we choose it so. We must all learn to create a health and fitness journey individually that supports this. We are the change. It is okay to admire other body shapes, but can we do that from a place of love for others and ourselves knowing we are beautiful just as we are. Health and fitness is about how we FEEL... The truth is life is about a feel in everything we do. That is why so many of us are unhappy. We are chasing self objectification, keeping up with the Jones's or anything other than what makes us feel good. When was the last time you set a goal for you, you took a photo that wasn't picture perfect and posted it, you worked out simply to enjoy rather than change something, you followed a diet not because you want to lose weight but because you wanted to feel well? Social media does the same thing as the fitness industry markets to us.. We base our likes and dislikes off not knowing a person or how they make us feel but how their pictures and posts look and how many likes they have. But we cannot measure a person's awesomeness, life challenges or successes, friendship qualities and values by a look/number and nor can we measure health and fitness by it. If we continue this root in health and fitness and social media and life. It is very likely we will never feel joy, be satisfied with our bodies and enjoy our journey and one life we have. When people ask me how I have successfully worked on my health and fitness for 10 years. How I keep smiling through my challenges. Firstly I say it is a lifestyle, it is not a destination. My looks are byproducts of the work I put in. Secondly my routine is ever changing and majority of the time brings me joy. Thirdly I make sure that I do things to feel well first. I If you choose to do things more with a feel, how would your health and fitness regime look like? What would your goals and home life look like? How would life feel more importantly than basing it off a look? Would this help you let the joy back in?
