So I had a thought yesterday — I was reading a book about a woman’s experience in finding her therapist, the process of therapy etc. and she realized how strong her feelings are for her therapist. Not romantic feelings, just a strong attachment to someone who listens to you, understands you and accepts you for exactly who you are. And she told her therapist about those feelings, adding a question of, isn’t that a little bit pointless or imaginary? And impossible that she would also be important to her therapist? Knowing that the relationship exists only because she pays her therapist for that kind of connection. And the therapist answered that both things can exist at the same time — yes that is the nature of the relationship, getting paid for a service she offers, but it doesn’t mean that she’s not actually important to her — she is.
And that made me think of what I do here and the similarities — I’ve been having these thoughts since I started my page. Is this lying to people, is this not “real” because people have to pay me for what I do, does this feel like a “scam” to people. Because it never does for me — if there’s a connection it’s a real one for me too. It can be meaningful for both sides and the exchange of money is not a barrier for that, more like a structure.
Anyway, those are my a little drawn out thoughts about the subject — I really hope everyone here knows I’m sincere and authentic in my interactions (and overall existence, that’s what I’m aiming for at least).
