While doing research on China, I found out that in the Yuan Dynasty, cuckolds wore green hats to signify their wife was a prostitute, or that their wife was cheating on them. Because of that, to this day, Chinese people do not wear green hats. When the Dutch came to China during colonial times, they were laughed at, because the Dutch wear green hats. The green hat looks like a tortoise shell. So apparently, in Chinese (not completely certain which dialect, but I believe it's Mandarin), the word for "tortoise" and "cuckold" are the exact same. The word is 乌龟 , which is pronounced "ooo-gwey."
