i used to feel intense GUILT that couldn't just magically fall in love with my body at the snap of my fingers.
until I realized that loving an object, person or thing takes time.
you don’t just decide to love someone one day when you're in love...
you first,
- get to know them
- you start to appreciate their quirks and faults
- a deep friendship develops
- and then over time, your appreciation and friendship breed fierce loyalty, respect, and partnership, which makes the choice of loving someone easy.
the same thing, I've found, is true with our bodies.
we aren’t always going to feel like loving our bodies. we just aren’t. like it won't come naturally given the world we've grown up in.
so now, i use knowledge and learning about my body as a way to fall in love with my body - just like i would get to know someone before falling in love with them!
self-appreciation leads to self-care and self-respect. and self-respect leads to self-acceptance.
do i love myself?
not always.
do i accept myself for where i'm at?
i do my best.
it is my CHOICE to care for my body day in and day out but this has nothing to do with how i FEEL about it.
the choice turns into loving myself.
this choice is based upon a deep respect for my body overall.
this love takes time - so don't beat yourself up if you're not there. learn yourself as a means of falling back in love <3
