Want to learn how to solo on the keys? Playing the fourth, fifth, and sixth chords of a scale with your bass hand frees up your treble hand to move freely within the scale. A good place to start would be the C Major scale since there are no black keys to account for. Happy jamming 😽

Harmonics are so beautiful! They add a nice ring to your playing. This harmonic lays across the twelfth fret. In order to get the right sound I lightly lay my finger across strings above the fret itself, rather than barring after the fret. Natural harmonics can be found at the fifth, seventh, and twelfth frets!

Time to change my strings again! I am a huge sucker for Elixir nanoweb strings. They have a flat coil making them easy on your fingers and a coating that prevents dirt from getting into the coiling making them last extra long for you. I like a medium tension so I use strings with gauges between 12 and 53. What strings work best for you?

Playing barred chords can be so annoying sometimes. Knowing a different voicing can give you an opportunity to rest within a song if your hand is getting tired! Here's an example of how to play a B7 chord without having to bar your hand across the fretboard.

I've been having so much fun playing with this cajón! It's widely known for its use in flamenco, but originally the cajón was used in afro-peruvian music. It's traditional roots will have you dancing like nothing else.

I always take the time to brush up on my music theory. Remembering the fundamentals will give you somewhere to go when you feel like you're caught in a loop. The circle of fifths is a way to organize the 12 chromatic pitches in a scale. Using this helps me to understand where I'm going next in a song!

I love switching up extremely simple chords to make a song more interesting. Here's an example of a D major chord and an open D suspended chord. This one is a lot of fun when are playing a D major after a C major. Don't forget to mute the E string with your thumb! Happy jamming🦊

I absolutely looooove finding ways to "cheat" on the guitar. Here are two versions of a Bm7 chord. The first example is the classic way, and the second not only eliminates the "bar", but sits on top of a harmonic. Throwing those harmonics into your playing will add a little magic to your jams.

The second is a simplified version I love to use. It’s an open sustained B major which gives a nice bright tone. This is a great chord for beginners who have trouble barring across the frets!
