I spent the weekend showing one of the most noble creatures on Earth. ๐ I get to call him mine, but Iโm just as much his.
Thereโs a story I once heard about how a person can have something invaluable, a prized possession that in the correct light is coveted by all. The same priceless treasure could be overlooked or even mistaken as rubbish to those unaware of its most polished state.
O was a lost treasure that Iโll forever value as a partner, a coveted gem, and trusty sidekick in my life. He came to me with bad habits, but he had only developed them from improper handling.
Horses do not make choices with forethought like humans, but similar to us, they do recognize and respond to joy, kindness, and consistency, as well as, mishandling, pain, and pressure. Most species have the cognitive ability to understand when another creature is genuinely interested in their best interest.
Lucky for me, O crossed my path. I could relate to his reactions, empathize with his situation, and I had the space for his life to add to my purpose. It took time and patience to get us to where we are, but O was my diamond in the rough. He is living proof to serve as a reminder that when all is almost lost you might still have someone show up and alter the course of your life. ๐
O did win a lot of pretty ribbons over the weekend, BUT at the end of it all the ribbons do not matter, only the quality of the ride and the heart of the horse. ๐๐
