🪷 Nymphaeaceae; or water lillies thrive in tropical or temperate climates, making them a fantastic addition to a garden or farm in Hawaii. They root in the mud and bloom at the top of the water. A beautiful analogy for the metamorphosis of life. The local Coqui frogs in Hawaii lay their eggs in the water around the lillies.They help regulate bugs on the farm and are very good to have around! I plan to make another lily pond in my garden this year.

I went to my favorite beach today after a week long storm to find the shoreline completely changed. 🌊 This is the best surfing beach on this side of the island, and it’s located where a stream coming down the mountain goes to the ocean. There used to be a distinct pond you could swim in, with a small channel of water that broke into the ocean waves. The storm caused the channel to break open, and large pieces of the shoreline fell off creating a new sandbar. 🪸🐚 I’m constantly in awe of the magnitude and beauty of nature. It reminds me that life is continuously flowing and there are times we must expand our shores to adapt to the waves of life.

Heading to the store to fill up my drinking water! When you’re off-grid, you have a couple options for drinking water. I use rain catchment for my general water needs, and you can get a water filtration system for drinking, or just drink the rain water (I know plenty of people who do!) But I prefer going to the reverse osmosis machine at the store because it has the purest drinking water. Something I’d like to do down the line is tap into a spring on the property. Getting clean drinking water is so important for health! 💦💧
