Some days aren’t as colorful as others. There will be days that feel boring and mundane or sad and empty, but hopefully you’ll have someone who shows up to restore the loss of vibrancy in your life. It might be someone who you would have never expected. Whoever it is, once you feel the color come back you’ll never forget them for helping you see it again.

In the movie, Trolls (random, I know), Branch is kind of grumpy and not portrayed as the happiest troll, but in the movie he helps the others get their color back. I’ll always love Branch a little more for that scene. 💜🩷❤️🧡💛💚💙

I think I have mentioned Sunday is my favorite day of the week. For whatever reason it seems like people show each other the most respect on Sundays. At least for me (living in the south) Sunday is considered a day of rest and a day that people tend to be a tad bit more considerate of other’s getting the day “off” of work. For those who work in fields that often require availability any day of the week, night or day, it can become hard to relax. A constant “on call” state can lead a person to experience anxiety, feelings of unrest, it can negatively affect their mood while inhibiting the person from thinking they can start anything for fear of being called in. I like to avoid these feelings by escaping to the mountains any chance I get. Today I’m not “on call” for work, but I still heard the mountains beckoning me. 🌲🧗🏻‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️💜

I don’t always put up my decorations before Thanksgiving, but this year I want to have time to really enjoy them. Life is busy and full and waiting too long to decorate can make it feel like I’m pulling them all out to barely see them, and then pack them right back up.

Everyone may or may not enjoy their decorations or want them out this early, but I’m not actually home for that long each day so I’d rather have the extra time.

My little living room isn’t a space that I spend much time in, but I do like for it to feel cozy and inviting. For the times I do get inside early enough for lounging around to watch a movie or to relax by my fireplace I have wanted a couch with a chaise lounge. While out shopping for a completely different piece of furniture I happened upon a couch that felt perfect for my space. I like how it fits and it gives me plenty of room to stretch out for relaxing evenings to come. 💜

18 months and counting 🗓️😍

I have worked my entire life for so many of the things I have now. Astro is a horse that I created after choosing his dam and sire. Of all of my horses he is one that I made happen through a process of events. Each of my horses hold their own special spot in my heart, but this one seems to have an extra connection that is strengthening and growing as he matures. What a wonderful life it is and what a wonderful thing to take a moment to appreciate it. I might not have as much as many, but I have more than I once dreamed. Life is good…. And my horses make it even better. 💜

I hope you all have some of the things that you wished for years ago and that your hard work pays off in all of the best ways for your life. 🥰

I did a little camping over the weekend. Listening to the leaves and pine needles tap along the tent walls at night and in the quiet of the morning is a refreshing way to drift off and wake to a new day. Relaxing in the evening to the crackle of a warm fire and losing yourself to random thoughts as you stare into dancing flames is peaceful. 🔥 Life feels slower in the woods, more tranquil and a lot more simple.

I’ll let you sit by the fire with me if you want, but it takes me dressing down into thin lingerie to find an ideal compromise with the heat of the fire and coolness in the air. My tent is plenty roomy. You can come in and check it out or catch a little peek of my silhouette on my tent wall. Don’t mind me while I make myself comfortable. 😉🏕️💜

Shelly’s (favorite kind of) Sunday in the South 🤍🐎

For a few weeks I felt like I was never home on the weekend! My life is busy with all of the things I do for work, but then add in vacations (close together) and wow, it feels nice to be home! I know, I know, “woe is me,”😆 but the only way I actually get a break from my real job is to leave town. 🤷🏼‍♀️

When I am home I try to ride at least 3 times a week. I definitely don’t jump O that often, but we either do flatwork in the arena or stroll around the property checking the fences and enjoying the ever changing colors of the seasons. 🍁 🍂

Thoroughbreds often tend to be pretty hot headed horses and not every Thoroughbred is suitable for pleasure riding outside of the arena. I know I mention it all of the time, but O is pretty amazing. He has a story just like you and me. The way he became a part of my life is proof that certain things are meant to be. He came to me unexpectedly during a time that I wasn’t looking for another horse. It was as if life knew he was supposed to be around.

O might not be the fanciest mover or flashiest horse in the world, but he couldn’t be more perfect for me.

It’s been a little while since I talked about how important it is for people to have a hobby. A hobby can be anything that someone chooses to do in their leisure time. My favorite hobbies are riding horses and rock climbing. These activities not only provide me with benefits from the physical exercise they require, but they add to my self worth and help me build confidence in numerous ways. Horseback riding, specifically, improves my ability to reason and reflect on how another creature feels and will react to me: my voice, my body language, my touch, and my presence. Riding conditions me to handle myself appropriately to yield an outcome that keeps me safe, having fun, and reflecting on my ability to affect another living animal. When we are both comfortable and enjoying each other it can feel like we have escaped the mundane routine of an ordinary day. The best part of riding and interacting with my horses is that they require focus. My focus on them temporarily erases my focus from any stress associated with the lesser parts of life.

Riding or climbing may not be your thing, but I’d love to hear what hobby frees your soul from routine? Now, take a minute to reflect and make sure you are saying yes to yourself enough to enjoy it!
